Mark Your Calendar: Business Education Week 2012 BEP is Looking for Professionals to Enter Schools We hope you’ll join us for Business Education Week beginning April 17, 2012. This is an important time each year when the business and education communities come together to make the education system in Sangamon County stronger. During this week, Presidents and CEOs of companies will partner with schools throughout Sangamon County for the Principal for a Day project. This is an opportunity for executives to gain new leadership perspective – through the ins-and-outs of running a school for a day. More than 29 executives participated in 2011. In addition, Business Professionals in the Classroom will pair local professionals with a teacher in the grade level of their choice to provide worthwhile educational experiences to students. This can include “team-teaching,” helping to plan classroom activities, or preparing a lesson about the professional’s own work or hobby. If you are a business wanting to participate in Business Professionals in the Classroom, please CLICK HERE for a sign up form. If you are a teacher wanting to participate in Business Professionals in the Classroom, please CLICK HERE for a sign up form. Sign up forms for Business Professionals in the Classroom are due March 1, 2012. We urge you to help us spread the word about this opportunity to your employees, colleagues, and friends! Business Education Week will culminate with the Partners in Excellence awards on April 19. This award recognizes outstanding partnerships between the K-12 schools and business in Sangamon County. The deadline to submit nominations is February 22, 2012. Thanks for supporting quality education and student achievement in Sangamon County! When the ad hoc committee dissolved at the end of 2005, it was replaced by an advisory board of community stakeholders beginning in January 2006. That advisory board, now 34 strong, meets monthly and has four standing committees: Partners in Education, Public Policy, Achievement and Careers. WHAT WE DO The BEP board functions under a set of Operational Guidelines and is a county-wide coalition of businesses, unions, community-based organizations, and education interests (P-16, private and public). Committee activities include leading the movement in developing business and civic partnerships for P-12 Schools in Sangamon County, advocating for improving student achievement in Sangamon County, acting as a leading private sector partner on public policy impacting P-16 education and working with public and private businesses and organizations to expose all students to career opportunities in Sangamon County.
